dc.description.abstract | A family centered maternity care is the care and supervision given to the expectant mother and family throughout pregnancy, labor and puerperium. It is based on a thoughtful understanding of the woman as a unique individual with peculiar needs which must be met within the context of the client‘s family. The care is extended to the members of the client‘s family as well as the community in which she lives. Family centered maternity care gives each family member the education and support the family needs to welcome the new baby. It enables the student midwife to utilize all the skills and knowledge acquired from the various subjects taught in school to give care to meet the peculiar needs of the pregnant woman and her family. The care study also serves as a partial fulfillment of an academic requirement of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana to license a student midwife to practice upon completion of her course. | |
